Times past shape our lives, and with a rich history dating back to 1837, Box Hill is a place grounded in community living for more than 180 years. The area’s pioneer was Arundel Wrighte, a landlord who established what would become one of Melbourne’s five major suburbs 100 years later, with Box Hill designated one of the city’s five major suburbs.
In the 70s, Box Hill became a destination suburb for the Chinese community, sparking another period of growth, both culturally and physically. Today Box Hill is Melbourne’s number one Chinese district, and has also become the most developed part of the city outside of the CBD. This history and culture makes Box Hill a thriving, multicultural place, one that enjoys a bustling atmosphere, alongside its calm suburban lifestyle.

According to Melbourne 2030: planning for Sustainable Growth, Box Hill will receive an estimated A$447.5* million to expand and renovate local hospitals and medical facilities. Sports and leisure are also in focus, with another A$30 million allocated to expand the local community’s multisports venue. On top of that, the Victorian government has put aside A$1.1 billion for improvements to Box Hill’s transportation network, renovating and expanding the two public transport hubs. This activity and investment means Box Hill as Melbourne’s second CBD is no longer a distant vision, it is a soon-to-be reality.
